We really enjoyed our visit in Johannesburg. Our tour guide had to pick us up outside of town. The additional charge of $25 was in significant compared to the distance he had to drive and the time it took to pick us up and bring us back. The tour itself was extremely informative and most enjoyable. Our tour guide went out of his way to share other information and area activities. Even got the tour the shanty houses through a friend of his. Highly recommend this to her to anyone considering it.
This is a fantastic tour. Our guide Lebo was brilliant. Informative and considerate and interesting conversations with him about all aspects. Our only regret is that we didnt take stationery to the kindergarden for the beautiful kids - we really regret that, we left cash instead (and this in not compulsory but it is the right thing to do).
Absolutely recommended tour and a super great guide (Tabanga). Great insights into the many facets of Sowero. Visit as “homies” and not as tourists.
Don’t do Johannesburg without doing this tour!Really easy to work with. Great personality. Super knowledgeable. Really happy we made the time for this experience! It was fun to drive and walk through Soweto (without it feel like an icky, “poverty” tour); the tour was extremely tasteful and, more importantly, respectable by a member from the community.
Very good to see a piece of real Soweto and not just the tourist spots. Good guide who knows a lot and is very open. Also neatly picked up and returned to the hotel
Thank you, Thabang for sharing your life experiences, your knowledge and stories with us. Thabang is great company and it we felt lucky to share the morning with him and understand the real history of Soweto from a local. This is a small group tour so you have the opportunity to ask a lot of questions and not be part of a big bus tour. We had a great time. I joined a few tours on my trip around South Africa and can say this one was the best of the trip. I'll be recommending Thabang to anyone who is travelling to Johannesburg. We also had the chance to briefly meet Neo....thanks for picking us up so we could join the group!
A tour of Soweto with Thabang of Tsalanang Tours was an absolute highlight of our first trip (family of four, two older teenagers) to South Africa, and is a must when visiting Johannesburg! In his comfortable bus, he took us round several different areas of the city. We saw all the different nuances and complexities and he gave us his honest and personal view on living there. Soweto is not just what you see on the television. It is a place where there is a great sense of community and where all social classes live. We also heard some very humorous anecdotes and thoroughly enjoyed the time there and our contact with our knowledgeable guide. We felt completely safe and would certainly do the tour again!
We had a terrific tour of the township and surroundings with Neo. Neo was very engaged with us and we felt that we learned a lot from the experience and a first hand telling of the history.. We were very glad we took the time.
Thaweng, the tour guide, is Soweto born and bred, hence he has the most amazing experiences and knowledge to share and show. He is super lovely and friendly and provides such a personal experience I wouldn't book anyone else! We were only 3 people on the tour, so got the most amazing tour ever. Other tour groups we saw had huge coaches full of people, this tour is nothing like that. We even got to get out of the car and walk through a portion of Soweto, something we never thought possible due to AUS media portrayal of the dangers of Soweto - nothing could be further from the truth and we are super thankful we did this tour to open our eyes to the reality. The level of poverty and the hardships endured by the township is something to see and feel, and it does make you sad/angry to think of all the battles these people endure every day in their own country, however it is something you need to experience in order to learn. We thought given the touristy nature of all the tours on offer it would be a waste of time/money, but this tour exceeded our expectations at every turn. Cannot recommend enough!
What a lovely day we spent at this village. We learned how to play the drums, learned much of the history of 5 historical tribes, including Zulu. Had a fantastic buffet lunch with traditional food. Just a great day!!!
The Tour was very informative and super fun!Thabang our guide was a responsible driver, fun and very knowledgeable about the area and culture of Soweto. Will definitely recommend him!
We just completed the tour with Tabang as our guide. We had a great experience with him and learned so much. Highly recommended this tour and definitely ask for Tabang. He is from Soweto and has so much to share as his personal experience.
Friendly ,knowledgeable driver . Was punctual Had local information being a Sowetan Absolutely loved it Bring cash for tipping Visited a nursery / pre school operating on the goodwill and cash donations from tourists The vibe and energy in this place amazing
Great tour of Soweto with the history and meeting locals. Really provided great insight into the history. Our guide was fantastic and really brought the history to life. Highly recommend!
Amazing layover tour from airport and gave us a glimpse of Soweto. It is also available for last minute booking. Highly recommended
We wanted to really get to know Soweto, not only the really touristic spots but the real neighborhood and the way of living. Tabhang was a really good guide and he gave us great insights around the township, its history and the different ways of living within it. Thank you so much for letting us have that experience.
